Summary

Irish Illustrated's Drew Mentock and John Brice of FootballScoop react to Notre Dame's 28-7 win over Boise State. First, the guys discuss how the Notre Dame defense did a good job of limiting Maddux Madsen and how the defensive front and linebackers generated pressure. Plus, Leonard Moore had 2 interceptions despite missing the last two games. JB and Drew also talk about how the offense wasn't as explosive as it had been against Arkansas, but that CJ Carr still took care of the football and didn't have an intentional grounding penalty. And speaking of penalties, there were a lot—a historic amount. The show got a flag thrown on it (true story!). We talk about the officiating crew and some of the calls. Additionally, sprinkled in are JB and Drew's reactions to UCLA's massive upset of Penn State and Florida's upset of Texas, as well as what these outcomes mean for Notre Dame.

while Penn State now officially has a losing streak. And Texas still doesn't own a win against the power conference opponent, nor do those aforementioned nitty lines. We'll get to that in a moment. But let's go ahead and put a bow on this Notre Dame victory.

Willer. Drew, just your initial immediate thoughts on the game. Another, what I thought was a workman-like

0:43.1

methodical victory for Notre Dame. Yeah, I think it's the type of performance we saw a little bit more

0:47.9

from Notre Dame last year. They give up 4.4 yards per play, which is the lowest they've given up

0:52.7

or allowed this season, actually after Miami, which is the lowest they'd given up, are allowed this season, actually after

0:55.7

Miami, which is just under five. So I think you saw a little bit of a gritty defensive performance.

1:00.7

You still have the explosive plays on offense. They ran the clock a lot. And I mean, the worst thing

1:06.1

is that they just got penalized a lot, and that is something they really had to overcome.

1:12.3

I think that is probably the biggest thing they're going to need to clean up from this.

1:16.7

I'm sure we'll get to that more going forward.

1:19.9

But yeah, just kind of a gritty performance and they covered the spread at the end of the day.

1:23.3

Despite so many mistakes, I believe it was 20 and a half coming into this and they went by 21.

1:29.2

Yeah, you're right.

1:30.2

It might have moved to 21 and a half in some different lines, but I saw it very consistently, 20 and a half.

1:36.2

Remember, it opened at around 15 and a half.
