Hey there from CNN. I'm Krista Bow with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, May 27th.

Americans are feeling more optimistic about the economy.

The conference board reports consumer confidence jumped more than 12 points in May.

It's the first monthly rise since November, and it beat economists' expectations.

It's also much better than last month's read, when consumer confidence fell to its lowest level

since the early days of the COVID pandemic.

But progress in President Donald Trump's trade negotiations with other countries gave Americans

a sense of hope this month.

At the opening bell this morning, U.S. stocks rose, after Trump did a 180 on his threat

to place a massive 50% tariff on goods imported from the European Union.

President Trump said this morning the EU is moving quickly on trade talks,

after he delayed his tariff threat from June 1st to July 9th on Sunday.

But market analysts were cautious about the staying power of Tuesday's relief rally,

given Trump's ability to change policy on a dime.
