I couldn't be more pleased to announce that as of today, the COVID vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women has been removed from the CDC recommended immunization schedule.

Hi, Afoma. Doctors who treat pregnant women and kids say that COVID vaccines are both safe

and effective for these groups, and they're worried that this change will make it harder

for people who want vaccines to get them.

This follows last week's change from the FDA and how it plans to approve COVID vaccines

going forward, potentially making them available only to the elderly and people at higher

risk of severe COVID.

Notably, FDA officials said that included pregnant women.

Now, data from the CDC show that COVID vaccination

protects both pregnant women and their babies in the first months of life, and in children,

COVID vaccines reduce the risk of going to the ER or urgent care because of the disease.

Overall, experts say this recommendation is likely to increase confusion, decrease confidence

in vaccines, and make them less likely to be covered by insurance.
