| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Black-Goburnup podcast, Kelly here. And today I want to talk about how to opt out of over-apologizing. This is something that I think happens to women, particularly. |
| 0:21.5 | We apologize for so many things. |
| 0:24.3 | And if we don't do it in word, we certainly do it in behavior and action, that our behavior |
| 0:29.7 | represents an apology. |
| 0:32.3 | It reminds me of just a couple weeks ago we had Sonia Renee Taylor on, and she wrote this book, |
| 0:39.9 | My Body Is Not an Apology? And we unpacked what that meant and how women go through the |
| 0:45.6 | world, particularly black women too, thinking that their bodies are an apology, that if we don't |
| 0:51.9 | fit a certain narrative of what we should look like or how much |

| 1:25.1 | black women. And so in that process, I have always thought about |
| 1:29.8 | what changes have I made to get there. And so this episode is going to be a combination of things. |
| 1:35.2 | It's going to be a little bit of like practical what to do instead of saying you're sorry, |
| 1:40.3 | particularly in professional settings, but just in the world in general. And some questions to think |
| 1:46.8 | about really, if you are apologizing too much, what tweaks you can make in your life to stand |
| 1:54.3 | up and show up unapologetically in your world as you deserve. |
| 2:04.6 | Like I said, for myself, it has been a journey. |
| 2:08.4 | I am definitely a person who used to say they were sorry a lot. |
| 2:10.4 | I over-apologize. |
