Altman is essentially signaling that OpenAI can't scale a profitable business until they

re-secure its foundational lead by fixing the core product experience.

Competitive leads and models are now fleeting.

They're measured in months, sometimes just weeks.

The minute that Google's Gemini top GBT on benchmarks, OpenAI's dominance was gone.

This past week, Deep Sea, remember them, unveiled two new versions of an experimental model

Next week, OpenAI will answer with its own new reasoning model that Altman says is ahead of Gemini.

is huge, but the utility for the average user is almost indistinguishable. And the tradeoff for Open

AI is increasingly brutal. Altman is talking about sacrificing future high margin revenue.

The memo says that they will delay products like advertising and specialized AI agents to

refocus on the chatbot itself. And that exposes OpenAI's core vulnerability. Chat is both its

crown jewel and its single point of failure. Everything rides on defending its position in the chatbot
