Summary

Oftentimes we avoid difficult situations by simply pretending they don't exist. There is real value in taking time out to be quiet and acknowledge our current reality — whether good or bad. In doing this we are able to gain clear vision and insight on how to maneuver through the circumstances at hand. This week, Radio Headspace is sponsored by The Michelle Obama Podcast. Hi, it's Andy here, and welcome to Radio Headspace, and a Wednesday morning.

0:17.5

So this morning I was out for a run, it was bright, it was early, and because everyone's

0:23.6

still working from home or most people are working from home, the roads were really quiet.

0:27.9

I don't know if you've been out running at all, or even just walking out in the streets,

0:31.6

but it's a strange time at the moment, because as people walk along, the sidewalk everyone

0:35.8

crossing the road to avoid each other, and does that person have a mask on, doesn't that

And as I was running along, I found myself running towards some traffic lights, and I could

0:50.7

see that the traffic lights were going to change to green, meaning I'd be able to just

0:54.2

keep on running.

0:55.4

But to the corner, or out the side of my vision, I could see a car coming increasingly quickly

1:00.8

to my side.

1:02.0

And as I looked to the lights that they were looking at, they were red, and yet the car

1:05.6

was getting faster, something okay, well, they're definitely going to shoot the lights.

1:09.5

So I started to slow down, and as I looked into the car, I saw this person who had clearly

1:14.7

just realised that the lights were already red, and yet it was way too late to do anything

1:20.5

at all.

1:21.5

Hopefully there were no cars coming along in the other direction, but as they went through

1:26.7

the junction, the person just closed their eyes, and gripped the wheel.

1:33.9

On the one hand, I felt for them, because I could relate to that response, there's nothing

1:39.2

you could do, so you just sort of close your eyes and hope for the best.
