I think after my sophomore year, like, seeing, like, how good I was and how capable I was,

I was like, okay, like, I'm obviously getting a full ride to school.

I mean, that's, I love the confidence.

Myumi Barry started running track in high school.

She was especially good at hurdles. She loved it.

It just became such an escape for me that I was able to grow and excel as much as I did because of how much of like a meditative

practice it was for me.

But when she arrived at Louisiana Tech in 2021 on a scholarship to run on the men's team there,

competing became less of an escape and more of a problem.

That's because Miami is transgender.

She said she started presenting a more feminine appearance during high school and that continued and more of a problem. That's because Mayumi is transgender.

I wasn't taking any hormones,

but I had, like, long hair and nails.

So, like, a lot of times that meets, like, people would be very confused whenever they would call for, like, the men's 400 or the men's 100 hurdles.
