Summary
What does it really mean to call Jesus "the Lamb of God"?
This week on Off Script, Neil sits down with Scott to unpack what didn't make it into Sunday's message. From a very real and very unpredictable lamb on stage to the deep theology behind penal substitutionary atonement, they explore why starting the year with Jesus changes everything. The conversation moves from Genesis to the Gospel of John, from Passover streets stained with blood to our everyday temptation to earn what God freely gives. Todays conversation is rooted in the hope that we are sons and daughters and not spiritual free agents trying to prove ourselves.
Your challenge: Stop treating Jesus like your last resort. This week, make Him your first response before you fix, control, or react. Pray first. Then move. Watch what changes.
Hosts: Neil Gregory & Scott Nickell

About Southland Christian Church
Southland is one church meeting in multiple locations across central Kentucky. We believe Jesus came for the lost and the broken, which means there's a place for everyone here. Around here, that means we worship defiantly, speak truth unashamedly, and extend grace generously.

| 0:20.8 | Welcome to the cutting room floor, a Southern Christian Church podcast. Each week, we sit down with our teachers to talk through what didn't make it into Sunday's sermon. Thoughts, stories, or questions that got left on the cutting room floor, but still matter. There's no script, just real conversations that allow us to go deeper into last week's sermon. Thanks for being with us. Let's jump in. |
| 0:37.1 | Well, hey, everyone, and welcome to the cutting room floor. My name is Neil, and today we have the shepherd. Very smelly. I smell the very smelly shepherd with us. I don't know, what just happened. Oh. Microphones falling apart. We're going to restart. No, it's good. I've fixed it. We got it. Yeah, you're fine. |
| 0:37.8 | Just keep going. |
| 0:39.0 | Look at you figuring that out. |
| 0:40.5 | I know how to turn knobs. |
| 0:41.1 | I'm a shepherd. |
| 0:37.7 | Look at you. falling apart. We're going to restart. No, it's good. I've fixed it. We got it. Just keep going. Just keep going. |

| 0:39.3 | I know how to turn knobs. |
| 0:40.6 | I'm a shepherd. |
| 0:41.3 | You are a shepherd. |
| 0:42.1 | I'm a lamb whisperer. |
| 0:42.9 | How was that? |
| 0:43.7 | I smell terrible. |
| 0:44.2 | I smell really bad. Really? Yeah. You got poop done? Yeah, behind the scenes, just so everybody knows, I left town for a couple days, so we recorded this sermon a few days earlier, or a day earlier than we normally do, and we had to use the lamb because we needed to know if this land was going to work. And on Wednesday, before I got on a plane, we ran this thing, and the lamb looked like a stuffed animal. It was just frozen. It barely moved. I thought, uh-oh, this is, people are going to think that you're just |
| 1:12.1 | holding a doll and that's going to be embarrassing. And it kind of moved, but it almost looked |
| 1:17.0 | little animatronic. Yeah. And then today it was like, yeah, it was going crazy. Yeah, I was |
| 1:23.1 | joking about how the lamb was freaked out by all the people, but loved me. That was actually, it was freaking out freaking out because all the people totally that's why he would turn and he was like nuzzling at my beard like please take me away from all these people but the lamb did good he peed on me and pooped on me early in the morning but second service he didn't he didn't he did great it's like he knew what he was supposed to do we'll'll see what happens tonight. We got him dialed in. |
| 1:44.8 | No, big thanks to the gracious folks down in Stanford, Kentucky, who let us borrow a couple lambs to use this weekend. Because apparently, if you have a lamb, you need to have, like, a partner with it. Otherwise, you get separation anxiety. Yeah, that's right. So why, why decide to start off kind of, I mean, we've had, we had John's weekend, |
| 2:02.8 | we had kind of what I would label as like a vision weekend, and now we're in like a series. |
| 2:09.1 | Why was the decision made to go, okay, we're going to start off the year with Jesus? |
| 2:14.9 | Yeah, yeah, no, very, like, I don't know where else to start, Neil. |
