Oceania, the Indo-Pacific and the contest between the People's Republic of China,

the United States and its allies, nominally about who do you love,

Taipei or Beijing, but actually about the geostr strategy of the map.

Looking at the Pacific you see lots of blue. Well they're Ireland

sovereign states. Some are aligned with China. Some are allied with European powers.

Some are under the protection of the United States and

that's where we're going right now. Josh, a very good evening to you. You've had a

conversation with an ambassador who's most concerned in particular about the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.

Where are they and why is he worried? Good evening to you.

Well, good evening, John. Well, you know, we hear a lot about the southern part of the South Pacific places like Solomon Islands,

Papua New Guinea, Fiji, we hear less about the northern Pacific Islands.

This is the Marshall Islands, in this case Micronesia and Palau, but they are no less

important and no less strategically contested. And if you doubt that, just look back to World War II

when U.S. Marines fought very hard for

these islands from the hands of the Japanese. Before that they were in the hands of
