Headline, Al-Qaeda opens eight new training camps, five Madrasas, and a facilitation network to Iran in Afghanistan.

The revelation here comes from the United Nations Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team.

We've talked of them before.

All of a sudden the United Nations sees things clearly.

This is good news.

The scale of this, however, were you anticipating

eight training camps? Good evening to you. Good evening, John. Unfortunately, yes, I

was anticipating this. This is something that those of us who understood

what was happening in Afghanistan during the Trump administration's negotiations and

then subsequently the Biden administration's withdraw.

We predicted that Al Qaeda would be, I'm not going to say re-establish itself in Afghanistan

because it was already there but increase its presence.

So the United Nations analytical support and sanctions monitoring team,

we'll just call it the monitoring team, has been doing great reporting on this and this is not

shocking because a report a year ago noted that al-Qaeda was operating camps in six provinces

and did indicate the presence of safe houses as well as a media

operation center. So this is in addition. So Al Qaeda is now operating

training camps in 10 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces. They're spread across the

country. Additionally, those safe houses that were identified, we got additional detail on them.

They're in three provinces, all border Iran.
