podcast and this is going to be one in a series of episodes that I'm doing about

plant nutrients. So what I'm going to do is take a look at a single nutrient that a plant needs and go into the details of it.

Why does a plant need it? What does a plant use it for? What happens if a plant does not have enough of it?

What happens if a plant has too much of it?

I had no idea that was going to happen. but of course I'm super excited for that information to get out there.

Now first, obviously, we're going to take a look at nitrogen.

nitrogen is the first, and to some degree the major nutrient for strong and vigorous growth,

for dark green leaf color, and for major parts of the photosynthesis process.

So plants that are almost all leaf, grasses, wheat, oats, small grain crops, golf course grasses, etc.

Those all need a lot of nitrogen. Nitrogen, of course, grasses, etc. Those all need a lot of nitrogen.

Nitrogen, of course, is the first number in fertilizers, the NPK, it's the N for these

crops and so if you're going to be growing a grassy or leafy crop it needs more

nitrogen than it would other elements. Now when you are buying a fertilizer for grasses that means that you need to look for an

analysis that starts with a very high first number. So 30-0 is often used for grasses,
