Additional aid for Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific is almost certainly delayed until next

year, hamstrung by differences on immigration policy, as record numbers of migrants arrive at the U.S. border with Mexico.

It's all one big bill, foreign aid and immigration policy reform meant to tackle US national security and

humanitarian concerns. But while there is some semblance of agreement on aid

immigration reform has daunted lawmakers for decades and it continued to do so in intensive negotiations

over the weekend. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkis, who oversees

customs and border protection, represented the Biden administration in long

meetings with Senate negotiators. With the House already home for the

holidays and unlikely to return, no bill text, and lingering policy differences,

it now seems all but certain that if there is a deal

to be had, it would come next year.

The European Union has opened a formal investigation into Alan Musk's acts, formerly known as

Twitter.

As NPR's Bobby Allen explains, the U authorities are accusing Musk of failing to combat illegal

material and disinformation.
