Ukrainian leader of Loner Merezalenski was on Capitol Hill today where he continued to press for more U.S. funding for his country's war with Russia.

However, as NPR's Deidor Walsh explains, this visit was much different from last years,

with some GOP lawmakers pushing back on providing billions in additional aid to fund Ukraine's war efforts.

Republicans are staying united to try to press for tying aid to a border deal, even ones who are strong supporters of Ukraine.

South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham told reporters,

he told Zlinsky this morning in the meeting

that he backed the war in Ukraine,

but he told Zlinsky he's worried about the warnings about all kinds of threats

to the U.S. that are coming from all over the world, including at the border with Mexico.

NPR's Deidre Walsh, President Biden and Zelinsky, later held a news conference at the White House.

As the United Nations, 153 nations are demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, voting on a non-binding

resolution in the General Assembly.

The vote comes just days after the U.S. vetoed a similar measure in the Security Council.

The U.S. was one of just 10 countries that opposed the resolution in the General Assembly, 23 countries

abstained.

Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield says the U.S. agrees the humanitarian situation in Gaza is

dire, but says it was Hamas that broke a deal that led to a

week-long pause in fighting and the release of over a hundred hostages.

Look there's no shortage of rhetoric here in New York, but it's the diplomacy the United States

is engaging in on the ground that made that week-long pause possible.
