Secretary of State Anthony Blinking made an unannounced visit to Iraq today

as part of a diplomatic trip to the Middle East.

Blinking met with the Iraqi Prime Minister in Baghdad and later received a security briefing

at the American embassy.

As you know, there have been a series of attacks conducted by militia directed at our personnel both in Iraq as well as in in Syria

Job number one for me is to ensure the security of our people to make sure that our personnel are safe and secure.

Blinken's trip comes amid growing calls for a ceasefire in Gaza,

but he says the Biden administration is working with Israel

for more limited humanitarian pauses.

Palestinian officials say airstrikes struck a refugee camp overnight in Central Gaza killing dozens of people including several children.

NPR's Ruth Sherlock reports this is the third such camp to have been hit by airstrikes in Gaza in recent days.

Magazzy refugee camp is made up of residential buildings

and residents there say several have been flattened in this attack.

Photographs shared by the Reuters News Agency show days of injury. flattened city where Israel is focusing its offensive.

Crowding instead into the central and southern parts of the tiny Gaza Strip,

many believed this refugee camp was meant to be in this safer area.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to
