House Speaker Kevin McCarthy says he is directing House committees to initiate a formal

impeachment inquiry into President Biden and the role he may have played, advancing his

son, Hunter's business interests, Morph M. P. R. Susan Davis.

House Republicans have already been investigating the president and his family's business dealings

for months.

They've yet to produce clear evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden, but McCarthy says

the impeachment inquiry will focus on allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption.

The announcement comes as McCarthy faces pressure from former President Trump and his party's

right flank to advance the impeachment process against Biden ahead of the 2024 presidential

election.

At least one House Republican, Matt Gaetz of Florida, had publicly threatened to force

a vote to remove McCarthy's speaker if he did not move forward with an inquiry.

Gaetz called McCarthy's announcement a baby step.

Republicans James Comer of Kentucky and Jim Jordan of Ohio will take the lead on the

investigation.

The percentage of Americans with health insurance declined in 2022, nearing a record

low.

The Census Bureau released new numbers showing that 7.9% of Americans had no health insurance
