U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spent the day meeting with Ukrainian officials

and visiting communities near Kiev.

He visited a school as Ukrainian children are heading back to class for the fall.

Here's NPR's Brian Mann.

After touring the school, Secretary Blinken spoke about the resilience of the Ukrainian

people and their efforts to keep the economy and cultural life going, despite months of

Russian attacks.

Blinken reacted at the latest large-scale strike on a marketplace in eastern Ukraine.

Just yesterday, we saw the bombing of a market, as 17 people are more killed.

Many others injured.

A market.

For what?

At least one child died in that attack near Denetsk.

Over the last 24 hours, Russia also bombed civilian areas in the city of Harsan, where another

person died.

Ukraine's President Vladimir Zelinsky has begun a new round of diplomacy, asking

other nations for aid, strengthening his country's air defenses.

President Biden is embarking on an overseas trip that will take him to the G20 summit

in India, Biden at the summit hoping to show the U.S. and allies can be more trustworthy

partners than China when it comes to economic and security issues.
