We hereby call the in-person portion of the 49th Quadrennial Democratic National Convention to order.

The Democratic National Convention in Chicago is underway.

The party is looking back and looking ahead.

Much of tonight's programming will deal with the legacy of President Joe Biden,

his lengthy Washington career, but the four-day

gathering will also focus on a re-energized party with Vice President

Kamala Harris as the standard-bearer.

Biden gives the keynote and Harris and a running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walls, will also be introducing

themselves more fully to the American people over the course of the week.

Even as things are kicking off inside the United Center in Chicago outside a group of demonstrators

protesting the war in Gaza have been clashing with police, though seemingly not in huge numbers.

And Pears Sonia D'ERkes is there.

A small splinter group kind of broke off at a different park

and stormed the barricades or attempted to storm the barricades.

What we know is that four people at least were arrested.

We're not sure if there were more.
