The president is traveling to New Mexico today from Member Station KU and M. Alice Fordham

reports he's expected to highlight investments in clean energy.

National Climate Advisor Ali Zadi told reporters aboard Air Force One that in New Mexico, people

would get a chance to see a manufacturing renaissance brought about by the administration's actions,

including the Inflation Reduction Act.

Zadi mentioned a new plant, manufacturing windtowers in the city of Berlin, and the Sun

Z-Align, a transmission project set to deliver primarily renewable energy from New Mexico

to Arizona and California.

New Mexico's state government is working toward a statewide renewable energy standard of 50%

by 2030, but in the last few years fossil fuel extraction has ramped up, and last year

it was the second largest crude oil producing state after Texas.

In NPR News, I'm Alice Fordham in Albuquerque.

In Los Angeles, around 11,000 city workers have walked off the job as part of a one-day strike

picketing began early this morning, Jillian Ron Perez of Member Station, L.A.S. News

Report.

Before daybreak, more than 50 city employees chanted outside the steps of City Hall.

They were joined by thousands of city employees who went on strike to protest what they say are

unfair labor practices.

The workers are represented by service employees' International Union.

Symbolia Wright is a wastewater collection worker.

The strike forced the city to postpone sanitation services for one day.
