President Biden will designate a new national monument in Arizona today to protect nearly

a million acres just outside the Grand Canyon.

TRIMS and environmentalists have been trying to safeguard the land for decades.

White House climate adviser Alisa Eidi says the designation means the land will be protected

from future remaining mining.

It's focused on preserving the historical resources in this 970, 917,000 acres, making

sure that we're doing everything that we can on a coordinated basis in a co-management

approach to lift up those historical resources, the ecosystem resources.

Biden is in Arizona today part of a multi-day swing through western states to promote his

policies.

Ohio voters will decide today whether to make it harder to change the state constitution.

The measure would raise the voter approval threshold to 60 percent and increase the signature

requirement that groups must meet to get amendments before the voters.

This is the only issue on the ballot put there by Republican state lawmakers ahead of

an November vote on an amendment to guarantee access to abortion.

Nearly 700,000 Ohioans have voted early, more than twice the early voters in last year's

contested primaries for U.S. Senate and governor in May.
