freed in a prisoner swap in Russia.

and a journalist jailed last year.

Alsu Kormacheva's voice for the first time in nine months.

It was something very special.

And Alsu was able to thank the president for this really diplomatic feat.

And we were so excited to hear a voice and tell her that we love her.

Kormacheva is an editor with the US-funded Radio for Europe, Radio Liberty.

Her husband says Russia concocted a criminal case against her, convicting her in a secret trial on the same day that Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovic was convicted.

He too is now free.
