The Justice Department says it is suing

the popular social media site Tik-Toc The

Justice Department says it is suing the popular social media site Tik-Toc. NPR's Windsor Johnston reports the DOJ is accusing the app of collecting data from users

under the age of 13.

The lawsuit is the result of a long running battle between the government and Chinese

own Tik-Tok.

The complaint accuses the platform of illegally collecting children's data and allowing

users under the age of 13 to create and use

Tik-Toc accounts. The lawsuit also says the site failed to honor parents'

request to delete their kids profiles. In a statement, the Justice Department says the legal action

will ensure that Tik-Toc honors its obligations to protect children's privacy

rights and parents efforts to protect their children. The lawsuit is the latest clash between the US government and

Tik-Toc, which claims to have more than 170 million users in the US. Windsor Johnston
