The Justice Department is suing Texas over its use of floating barriers in the Rio Grande

that were installed by Governor Greg Abbott to block migrants from crossing into the US

illegally from Mexico.

The DOJ says Abbott and the state violated federal law by installing the barriers in US waters

without getting permission from the US Army Corps of Engineers.

This came after Abbott told the White House he would not remove the barrier.

The Texas newsrooms Juliana Aguilar has more.

The latest statement from the Texas Republican came just hours before a deadline the Department

of Justice set last week for the state to begin removing the buoys.

The Department of Justice told Abbott the buoys violate federal law, race, humanitarian

concerns, and interfere with the federal government's actions on border security.

In his response, Abbott said Texas has the right as a sovereign state to secure its borders

and will see the Biden administration in court.

Abbott also said the crisis on the border is of Biden's own making and that Texans are

quote, paying the price for the administration's failure.
