Lawyers for former President Donald Trump are asking a federal judge to delay until

after the presidential election.

The start of his trial are in charges of withholding and concealing classified documents.

NPR's Greg Allen reports the government lawyers want the trial to begin in December.

Judge Eileen Cannon called the hearing to discuss how attorneys would handle classified

material Trump and aid Walton out are charged with withholding.

First lawyers say because of the sheer volume of material seized by the government, they

can't even begin to discuss a schedule for the trial until later this year.

And that delaying the trial until after next year's presidential election is the only

fair thing to do.

Federal prosecutors rejected that argument and acclaimed the Trump to serve special treatment because

he's a former president running again for the nation's highest office.

Arguing quote, Mr. Trump is not the president, he's a private citizen and died by a grand jury.

Judge Cannon said she would issue an order soon.
