The searing heat across several states in the West continues this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued excessive heat warnings and heat advisories for several

cities in Las Vegas, forecasters expect temperatures this weekend to be record-breaking.

Avet Fernandez from Member Station KNPR spoke with some outdoor workers there.

For construction crews, hot weather means taking steps to prevent workers from succumbing

to heat.

Race, strows, and his crew are working in southern Las Vegas, building a storage facility.

When it gets hot, he says construction workers wear more clothes.

That's to keep the sweat inside and the sweat actually keeps your body cool.

On the strip, costume showgirls are still outtaking pictures with tourists.

Linda Terry is among them.

What sucks is just being really sweaty.

My hair is really long, so it presses down on the sweat on my back.

Radiologists are expecting temperatures may either meet or surpass the official high

of 117 degrees last set in July of 2021.

The Senate is working on amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act.

NPR's Windsor-Johnston reports the House passed its version of the bill yesterday, which

included a number of provisions that most Democrats flat out rejected.

The House bill includes amendments that would block funding for U.S. service members

who travel out of state for abortion services and would prohibit gender affirming care.
