Nearly a third of Americans are under extreme heat

advisories, watches, or warnings this weekend.

Temperatures are expected above 120 degrees

in parts of Nevada, Arizona, and California.

The California State Fair, known as Cal Expo,

opens in Sacramento this weekend.

Tom Martinez is the chief executive officer for the event.

He says they're bringing in more first responders

and establishing places where people can cool off.

We have some cooling stations.

And yes, I had to bring that up because I did see the forecast

this weekend.

These cooling stations, there are four of them spread out

in designated areas where there's high traffic

and people need a break.

Organizers have also banned unaccompanied minors this year

so they can deal more quickly with any emergency.

The forecast this weekend in Vermont is more rain.

The state was hit hard by floods this week.

Yesterday, President Biden issued an emergency declaration

to provide federal aid.
