France says it will send long-range missiles to Ukraine.

M.P.R.'s elder Beersley reports President Emmanuel Macron made the announcement on the

first day of the NATO summit in Vilnius.

French President Emmanuel Macron said, we've decided to deliver new missiles that will

allow Ukraine to strike deep in enemy-held territory.

He said it's important for NATO to send a strong message of unity and support to Ukraine.

The scalp is the French version of Britain's storm shadow, which Ukraine has already been

used in its counteroffensive.

Both GPS-guided missiles can hit targets more than 150 miles away.

The missiles were developed in the 1990s in a joint French-British defense project.

Germany has also announced a new shipment of weapons worth $770 million.

Germany is among the largest contributors of weapons to Ukraine after the U.S.

Heavy rainfall across the Northeastern U.S. is causing major flooding in multiple states.

It's led to at least one death.

As NPR's Joe Hernandez reports, authorities are still working to rescue people in remote

areas and assess the damage.

Vermont was hit particularly hard.

Governor Phil Scott called the flooding catastrophic and historic and said first responders

were still working to rescue people stranded in remote areas.

The urged people to remain vigilant amid continuing danger from high water.
