The US Supreme Court is upholding a federal ban on gun possession for anyone covered by a domestic

violence court order.

Caroline Love with Member Station K-E-R-A reports the case centered on a North Texas man who tried

to challenge the restriction. Zaggy Rahimi's case. the case

reached the high court after prosecutors appealed a ruling that threw out his conviction for possessing guns

while subject to a restraining order.

Rahimi had assaulted his girlfriend in a parking lot, threatened a shooter, and fired a gun at a witness.

Rahimi's attorneys argue that the gun ban for domestic abusers violated Rahimi's constitutional rights, but justices

upheld the ban in an 8-1 vote.

Catherine Jacob is the president and CEO of Safhaven, a family violence center in North Texas.
