Secretary of State Antony Blinken is heading to China today for some high stakes diplomacy.

Imperial's Michelle Kellerman reports he's trying to open up better lines of communication

to avoid misunderstandings.

Secretary Blinken says he wants to make sure that the U.S. competition with China doesn't

veer into conflict.

Before leaving, he met with Singapore's foreign minister Vivian Bala Krishnan, who says

the U.S. and China have to find some way to work together on issues that matter to the

rest of the world.

The trip is essential, but not sufficient.

There are fundamental differences in outlook, in values.

Secretary Blinken was due to visit Beijing in February, but postponed the trip after accusing

China of sending a spy balloon across the United States.

Ugandan security forces are pursuing suspected rebels who attacked a school in Uganda last

night, killing at least 41 people, mostly students.

Halima Atumani has more.

Ugandan rebel group, the Allied Democratic Forces, are reported to have hacked and banned

to death students in a school near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Guedal General Felix Klaige is a Uganda People's Defense Forces spokesperson.

This is the first area for attack on a school in 25 years.
