There are no dead-sealing talks planned for today between the White House and House

Republicans.

This less than two weeks before the U.S. is expected to run out of money to pay its bills.

In Pierce Claudia Grisalos reports, President Biden is monitoring the situation from Japan.

President Biden expressed optimism from the G7 summit that both parties could still

reach a deal.

However, the remarks came after a Biden White House spokesman issued a statement saying

that, quote, Republicans are taking the economy hostage and pushing us to the brink of default.

On Friday, Republicans left the negotiating room with White House officials frustrated,

saying they had paused the discussions.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy told Fox Business News later Friday evening that they would

return to the talks.

McCarthy has said he hoped the two sides could have an agreement in place by this weekend

to avoid a financial default that could happen as early as June 1st.

The Department of Homeland Security says there's been a dramatic drop in encounters with

migrants along the southwest border.

Texas Public Radio's Jerry Clayton reports the drop follows the end of Title 42 earlier

this month.

Since Title 42's end, the Biden administration has reverted to Title 8 processing and implementing

a rule that places conditions on asylum eligibility for individuals who do not use lawful immigration
