During a public rally in North Carolina today, Democratic Governor Roy Cooper vetoed

legislation that would have banned nearly all abortions after 12 weeks of presidency.

As veto launches a major test for leaders of the GOP-controlled General Assembly to attempt

to override it.

Cooper is a strong abortion rights supporter and he had until tomorrow night to act on

the measure that would tighten current state law that bans most abortions after 20 weeks

of pregnancy.

Disability rights advocates are raising renewed concerns about the health and safety of

people with disabilities now that the COVID-19 public health emergency has been lifted.

As NPR's Christian right reports, they say that coronavirus remains a serious threat.

Disability rights groups say COVID-19 is still an emergency for people with disabilities.

They're against the Republican-backed debt limit bill passed by the House to impose

mandatory Medicaid work requirements to cap spending.

American Association of People with Disabilities President Maria Town says millions would lose

critical supports and services.

Women community-based services are what make it possible for people to avoid living in nursing

homes or group homes or other congregate settings where this virus spreads very, very quickly.

AAPD and other groups also want COVID vaccine requirements put back into place for workers

in those settings.
