The leader of the proud boys, far-right extremist group, and three other members of the organization

have all been found guilty of seditious conspiracy in a plot to attack the U.S. Capitol and keep

Donald Trump in power after his election loss to Democrat Joe Biden.

Washington, D.C. jury today, convicting Enrique Terrio and the others after hearing testimony

from dozens of witnesses.

Today, Attorney General Marra Garland noted that it's one of the most serious cases yet

to arise from the January 6, 2020 attack on the Capitol.

The evidence presented a trial detailed the extent of the violence at the Capitol on January

6, and the central role these defendants played in setting into motion the unlawful

events of that day.

The charge carries a potential prison term of 20 years.

Garland says the Justice Department's investigation has now led to more than 600 convictions of

those involved in the attack.

President Biden assigned an executive order, making it possible for the U.S. to impose sanctions

on people in Sudan.

As NPR's Tamar Keith explains, violence and cartoon continues as rival military leaders

battle for power.

In a signing statement, President Biden said the American people stand with the people

of Sudan.

Although the order doesn't directly impose sanctions, National Security Council spokesman

John Kirby says it gives the U.S. Department of Treasury the option to do so, if needed.
