Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. President Trump is backing off a bit from his 25% tariffs on autos and auto parts.

Trump is part of the marking of his 100th day in offices in Michigan today, where he signed an executive order.

He says we'll give automakers as he put it some breathing room as the industry moves to produce

more vehicles in the U.S. A senior Commerce Department official says the actions will help

offset the tariffs by offering automakers who finish their vehicles domestically, an exemption

equal to 15 percent of vehicles price this year,

and 10% the second year.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has canceled a Pentagon program called Women, Peace, and Security.

NPR's Quill-Lorrence, reports the program began under the first Trump administration.

Heg-Seth posted on X that he proudly ended the

Women Peace and Security Program, calling it a woke, divisive, social justice, Biden initiative

that he claims troops hate. But the program, which focused on involving women to prevent and

resolve conflicts abroad, was passed under the First Trump administration by a bipartisan majority in Congress.

The Trump campaign even touted the program during election season to back up the claim that

Trump did more for women than any president in history. Secretary Hegeseth has been under fire

since sharing sensitive military plans in insecure group chats. President Trump has said he thinks
