Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. President Donald Trump is in McComb County, Michigan for an evening rally marking his 100th day in office.

NPR's Don Gagne reports it comes at a time when his approval ratings are dropping weighed down by concerns about the economy.

Trump has come to a county that is home to a large number of factories and design facilities for the U.S. automobile industry.

As such, there is a large contingent of union auto workers here who support the president.

Among them, you find strong backing for Trump's

tariff policies. They believe Trump, when he says tariffs, will bring tens of thousands of jobs

back to places like Michigan. Still, even with the focus here on tariffs, it's common to hear

people lined up outside the rally, cite tough immigration

policies and deportations as the thing Trump has done that they're happiest with so far.

A new NPR PBS News, Maris poll is taking the measure of President Trump's

first 100 days. NPR's Domenico Montanaro says many Americans are not impressed. More than 1,400

people were reached by telephone, online, or by text, and they were asked to grade Trump's first

100 days in office. The top answer was an F. 45% of respondents gave Trump the failing mark. About

half that, 23% gave him an A. 80% of Democrats and 49% of independents gave Trump an F.

54% of Republicans, meanwhile, gave him an A. Trump has just a 42% approval rating in the

poll overall. The second worst score for a president's first

hundred days in 80 years of polling. The lowest, Trump, in 2017, when he was just a point

lower. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points. Domenico Montanero,
