President Biden is welcoming the Supreme Court's decision to grant a stay in the abortion

pill case.

Mifaprestone is used in more than half of abortions in the U.S. and Imperial's Chamber.

Keith reports it will remain available.

In a statement, President Biden says he stands by the FDA's approval of Mifaprestone,

and his administration will, quote, continue to defend the FDA's independent expert authority

to review, approve, and regulate a wide range of prescription drugs.

A lower court judge had ruled the FDA shouldn't have approved the abortion drug more than 20 years ago.

The Supreme Court left the case to the fifth Circuit Court of Appeals,

but blocked the lower court ruling from going into effect.

Biden also called on voters to elect members of Congress who will restore the protections of

Roe v. Wade.

In her statement, Vice President Harris said no one should stand between a woman and her doctor.

Justice Samuel Olito and Clarence Thomas dissented in the decision to grant a stay.

Olito wrote that the Biden administration and the drug's manufacturer had not shown that they

were likely to suffer irreparable harm.

With hundreds killed in the past week in fighting continuing between Sudan's military and a
