Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Corva Coleman, a powerful winter storm is hitting

the Northeast.

And Ferris Giles-Natter reports it will bring a lot of snow.

Measureable snowfall in the Northeast has been lacking this winter, but this nor Easter

is expected to dump as much as 2.5 feet as it makes its way from Pennsylvania into Maine.

National Weather Service for acaster Andrew Orison says snow could fall at a rate of 2-3

inches an hour.

Again, there will be strong winds and the combination of those two will produce dangerous

to locally impossible travel.

And again, we talked about the Pyrage concerns as well.

Weather Service is warning of the nor Easter at the same time as another atmospheric river

moves into California.

Poor cancers are warning of life threatening flooding and heavy snowfall in higher elevations.

In addition to heavy snow and mountainous areas, the atmospheric river is bringing heavy

rain to parts of California.

That's led to flood watches today.

The warmer weather is melting heavy snowpack and the National Weather Service says many

rivers are out of their banks.

Several California communities have been told to evacuate.

That includes part of Monterey County, a levy there breached flooding hundreds of homes.
