Evacuation orders are in place in California, as more heavy rain is expected this weekend.

More than 1,000 residents of the community of Paharo are being displaced after the river

breached two levees early this morning.

From Member Station KQED, a Zool-Dostrum Echman has more.

Following an atmospheric river event over the past two days, county officials say the

flood has put the entire town under some amount of water.

Luis Alejo is the chair of the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.

He's worried that the flooding will only intensify with the next round of storms.

Emergency staff is predicting another major atmospheric storm to come next Tuesday, so the

evacuation and the flooding of Paharo is likely to continue for several days.

The state National Guard says they have been involved in more than 50 rescues from the flooding

so far, and the county has opened an evacuation center at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds

in Watsonville.

As the follow-up from the biggest bank failure since the Great Recession continues, California

Governor Gavin Newsom says he's working with the White House and the FDIC to stabilize

the situation with Silicon Valley Bank.

That bank was seized by regulators yesterday.

After a told investors Wednesday, it needed some $2.2 billion to balance the book, sparking

a run on the bank.

SVB was a big player in the tech and venture capital communities, including startups.
