The Biden administration says it carried out a military operation in northern Somalia that

killed an ISIS leader and about 10 of his associates.

NPR's Michelle Kellerman reports the U.S. is calling this a significant counter-terrorism

achievement.

The target was a man named Belal Al-Soudani, who U.S. officials say has been funding a network

of ISIS affiliates around the world.

Officials say they wanted to capture him to gather more intelligence about his operations,

but he was killed in the operation along with some of his associates.

Biden administration officials say there were no civilian or U.S. casualties.

They say the president ordered the assault Wednesday following months of intelligence gathering

and extensive rehearsals, planning that reached a critical stage last week.

The U.S. notified the Somali government after the assault in the mountainous region in

northern Somalia.

Advisors to the Food and Drug Administration are endorsing the agency's plans to make

major changes to the nation's strategy for vaccinating people against COVID-19.

NPR's Rob Stein reports the goal is to simplify the vaccination process moving forward.

After a day-long meeting, the FDA Advisors voted to simplify how people get vaccinated

against COVID and make the process much more like the annual flu shots.

Right now, getting vaccinated against COVID means getting two of the original shots, weeks

apart, followed by one of the new Bivalent Omercron boosters at least two months later.
