Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Corvus Coleman, the US economy likely grew at a fairly

healthy clip in the final months of last year.

But as NPR Scott Horsley reports, growth is expected to slow down in 2023.

The Commerce Department is set to report this morning on how the economy performed in

the last three months of the year.

Mark Zandy, who's with Moody's Analytics, says after a lacklustre start to 2022, the

economy seemed to find its footing.

And with the fallout from the war in Ukraine and the lingering effects of the pandemic.

Despite all the headwinds and the higher rates and all the things that went wrong, Kani

still was able to grow in 2022.

Consumer spending, which is a key driver of the economy, has held up relatively well,

even if people have had to dip into savings or rely on credit cards to keep pace with rising

prices.

Economic growth is expected to be slower this year, thanks in part, to higher interest

rates.
