How to blow up a pipeline. The famous polemic by Andreas Maum

doesn't actually answer the question it's titled poses. You never find out how to blow up a pipeline.

What it does tell you is why and the answer is clear because the pipelines are killing us.

However slowly and it is now faster and faster the infrastructure we have assembled around us

and the ways of living and consuming that it locks us into are destroying the earth's support

systems on which we rely. You know this. We all know this. It's become a familiar homily

and yet the apocalyptic stakes of the moment have not inspired apocalyptic action.

If you do want to find out how to actually blow up a pipeline, how to make thermite,

how to accumulate enough fertilizer or make a detonator, then you're more likely to find yourself

these days in obscure corners of the internet than you are in your local bookshop

in the corner with the verso titles. Or possibly at the cinema,

watching how to blow up a pipeline. And if you can believe it, sort of film of the book.

The film, which is every bit as exciting as the book is, follows a ragtag group of mostly

unlikely activists in their attempts to destroy a piece of this most critical infrastructure in Texas.
