0:39.3	about his new book, Circle of the Snake, Nostalgia, and Utopia in the Age of Big Tech. Grafton, how are you doing?
0:45.4	I'm doing well. How are you? Doing well as well as one can. I live in London, and we had a three-tier
0:52.0	system for the level of severity of risk of COVID transmission,
0:56.0	and then they decided to just create a new tier out of nowhere. So now we're in tier four.
0:59.6	Nobody even knows what it means. But our UK fans know full well that Britain and the United States
1:05.2	are neck in neck in mismanaging and just generally being incompetent and corrupt. But somehow the hard-right government
1:13.0	maintains support mostly because of deranged boomer, Facebook, and WhatsApp groups. And that is,
1:19.1	in many ways, relevant to the topic at hand because I have just finished reading Circle of the
1:24.8	snake, which as I understand it, and of course, I'm open to
1:28.8	being correcting here, of course, your thesis is that basically in the modern age of neoliberalism
1:37.4	and alienation from labor, Big Tech has provided an outlet for people to escape into nostalgia, which has become an imagined
1:48.3	sort of nostalgic utopia, creating an imaginary past. But that imaginary past has also
1:55.1	yielded political ramifications of people, coalescing around extremist, right-wing ideas, but even beyond the political,
2:04.4	it also has managed to bleed over into the way in which entertainment is produced and consumed.
2:11.1	Yes. That is, honestly, I, I probably couldn't say it any better. I think that's it.
2:16.5	So let me ask you this question. You, You first wrote a book about Vaporwave.
2:20.9	And I think an entry point into this would be, for me at least, I encountered Vaporwave probably later than you did.
