Shall we start with a quick flashback to yesterday's programme?

I don't know if you were listening when we examined Gavin Williamson's contention

that there'd been a sort of breakdown in discipline,

post-lockdown, and that removing mobile phones from classrooms would be part of the answer.

It was a rare consensus from my callers, most of whom were teachers, explaining that the

position that Gavin Williamson appeared to have adopted

was based on absolute beans. Nobody recognized the description that he appeared to have subscribed

to in a piece, in a self-promoting puff piece written for the newspaper, well, the former

newspaper, known as the Daily Telegraph.

And I can tell you today in the Times, it is reported that pupil behaviour has never been better,

the leader of the head teachers union set, after Gavin Williamson called for schools to ban mobile phones to promote discipline.

And there it is.

So not for the first time. I'll call us just a few paces ahead

of the national news agenda. I wonder whether they will be today. Let me tell you now that at 11

o'clock we'll be turning our attention exclusively to events in Northern Ireland. And what I would

really like to do is confine that conversation to Northern Irish voices.

Maybe not completely.

I don't know whether it's a slightly excessive ambition, but I certainly won't be inviting

comments from people like Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg, who have, even by their own

pathetic standards, been proved comprehensively and completely wrong
