but we'll start by talking about quarterback Russell Wilson. Now, over the last couple of weeks,

Russell Wilson has been in the discussion for the New York Jets, and that's because the Jets offered

him a contract to be Gino Smith's backup

quarterback. Wilson and Smith go back. In Seattle, Gino was Russell Wilson's backup quarterback

for three years. Apparently, the Jets went to Gino, asked his thoughts on a veteran backup,

who would be a good fit, and Gino sang Russell Wilson's praises. But after the Jets offered Wilson a contract, the veteran quarterback also went into negotiations

with CBS sports.

CBS is trying to fill a vacancy in its pregame show, the NFL today.

Matt Ryan has left the show to take a front office job with the Atlanta Falcons.

So over the last couple of weeks, the question has been whether Russell Wilson will be the

Jets backup quarterback or whether he was going to go to TV.

And the longer this dragged on, the more it felt to me like Wilson was going to take a TV job.

In fact, I think that that was always the most likely scenario because Russell Wilson was a decorated quarterback.

This was a guy who at one point was among the top two to three quarterbacks in the NFL.
