Welcome to the Treatment, the Home Edition. I'm Elvis Mitchell. Since my last guest was here last in 2012 with this film Armitrage, he's going on to

make another film about basically what's happening and what they used to call today's screaming

headlines. His new film is writer-director and co-star is the film Crisis. My guest, of course, is

Nicholas Jurecki. Nick, welcome back. Good to talk to you. Elvis, a pleasure to be here. Thank you.

I'm going to ask you because even

in the film that you did before, for arbitrage, you've been interested, attracted as a filmmaker

in dealing with contemporary subjects in your work. I wonder where that comes from for you.

I was thinking about this the other day and I recognized that when I started in film,

you know, I had loved as a kid those films that we all love, back to the future, et cetera.

But when I was about 14 or 15, my mom said, okay, I got some tapes I want you to watch.

I wanted you to take a look at the godfather. And I said, no, I don't want to watch a black and white

movie. And she said, listen, no don't want to watch a black and white movie.

And she said, listen, no son of mine could be this stupid.

So sit down and watch this movie.

And I did, right?

And I was just blown away because it was a whole different kind of filmmaking.

And from there...

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

You wrote a book on film directors getting their stars, and you thought the godfather

was in black and white.

I just want to make sure I got that right.
