Major news for the Americas.

We begin in Lima, Peru, where the APEC meeting is underway, but there's much more of Peru

than APEC, which is large enough.

This has to do with the opening of a new port, a deep water port on the western shore of Latin America, built by China.

And the expectation that while this isn't formally part of the Belt and Road to my knowledge,

China is in possession of a major

route between the resources of Latin America and the Chinese economy. I welcome the professor

to comment on some of the headlines to do with this event. In South American Copper Giant,

Peru,

the incoming Donald Trump White House will find itself already on the losing side,

Reuters, in a trade battle with China,

part of a bigger power realignment

around the resource-rich region

in Washington's backyard.
