Major meetings in Latin America at the same time, new names in the United States for leadership

in 2025. And what does that mean for

not only the whole of the continent, but major authority in the continent? We begin with Mexico,

Mexico City, where there's a new president, Claudia Scheinbaum, a protege of AMLO.

Amlo and the first Trump administration work together.

What are the issues for the second Trump administration and the new president?

Who is a consistent marina member and therefore nothing shocking here?

But we start with the economy and the USMCA.

Professor, your measure has been that there will be no disruption. There are no major clashes.

Perhaps the rumor that the Chinese are building factories in order to sneak into the U.S. will be a flare point,

but not profound. Do you see the Trump administration and Claudia Shinebaum working together

after a fashion the way the first Trump did with AMLO?

Certainly a desire to manage the relationship. My understanding is that the first

brief call between President-elect Trump and in Cloudy Shinebaum went fairly well. I think

her predecessor and mentor Andreas Manuel Lopez-Ogarador also understood that, that in the

interest of Mexico and these relations that are fundamental to both of our countries, the

importance of making things work.

Having said that, though, there are a range of issues, I think that will be difficult to

wrestle with, particularly where Mexico wants to go and where the Trump administration wants

to go.
