I'm John Bachelor with Professor Evan Ellis of the US Army War College Strategic Studies Institute, watching Venezuela in turmoil, yes,

with promise yes, but the guys with guns are not leaving, and who is allied with the guys with guns are not leaving and who is allied with the guys with guns Russia

China Iran North Korea certainly Lebanon through Hezbollah.

But of note, in the early hours after the stolen election,

there were three countries that did not condemn, in fact issued statements that you'd have to

say were favorable to Maduro. Brazil, Colombia, and surprising to me, Mexico,

will begin with Brazil.

Professor, I remember in the early hours, there was a report that Madura was calling

Lola de Silva this afternoon.

What is it to Brazil that the stolen election stands? How does

Lula de Silva gain from this? Well John that clearly Lula as a representative of what you call the forces of the left in Latin America and in a different way, Gustavo Petro a little bit less credibly, but also at least ideologically and rhetorically

representing those leftist forces. It is a bit of an embarrassment for them

when one of their own Nicholas Maduro behaves in such just a transparently non-democratic

repressive way.

Again, you know, completely ignoring election results, you know, again, when you have

photographic evidence that the election completely went the other way.

And so what you have is an attempt to not appear to be siding with clearly anti-democratic action and yet avoid at all possible essentially

condemning their, essentially their ideological ally because if you weaken the forces of the

left in the region, you essentially weaken your own coalition and you go against a friend.
