Summary

New year, new you with Atomic Habits by James Clear

Hello CEO Teachers and welcome to a brand new year, new you! That’s right, it’s 2022 and I’m the girl who loooooooooooves a new year, new you outlook. So to kick off today’s episode, let’s start with a quote from one of my favorite books, Atomic Habits by James Clear. (And let’s be real: this is not the first time I’ve read or listened to this audiobook. I pick up the Atomic Habits audiobook each January to get back on track with my habits and to focus on new things that help me grow as a person, a mom, a wife, a entrepreneur and a boss.) From the book:

ATOMIC HABITS QUOTES

“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.” ― James Clear, Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones

New year, new you through a personal example

If the theme is “new year, new you,” then I’ll lead by example. This episode is highly personal for me. So to help you understand the depth (and the power) of what James Clear’s Atomic Habits can do for you, Im going to get real. Look friends…I am a very private person! But if I’m asking you to shoot for your dreams and to step toward your goals, I want you to see how I’m applying the strategies presented in this episode toward my life. Want to learn about an area that I’ve never shared before and one where I am committed to tackle through a new year, new you approach? Then listen to this episode! Believe me when I say: there is magic in this practice.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The Atomic Habits cliff notes plus my own formula based on James Clear's ideas to stop undesirable habits
  • New year, new you strategies based on what you use (or used to use) in the classroom
  • How a new year, new you approach to your goals CAN be simple
  • A personal area of my life where I struggle that I am committed to improve through using the strategies presented

learned inside of some of my favorite books. One of them that I reread every single year for the

last few years is written by

James Clear called Atomic Habits. You may have heard me referencing before, but let's get real. I

actually listen to Atomic Habits audiobook and it helps me really stay focused. I share it with

my mom. She's reading it this year. It just helps me grow as a person and as a mom and wife and entrepreneur and boss.

1:13.0

It is a quick and easy read and it takes a lot of the ideas that you may have already learned in psychology class from college and it transforms them into real actionable strategies for anyone.

1:25.1

If you love book companions, you know, books that you can read that kind of

1:28.1

reiterate what you've read from a previous book, I encourage you to read The Power of Habit by

1:32.8

Charles Duhigg. Now, I read that book first. It's not as easy of a read, though, as Atomic Habits.

1:38.7

It's a little bit more scientific. A lot of different studies go on in that book, but the same

concepts, just kind of a different approach to them and how you can really

change your life by changing small little habits every single day.
