Summary

When leaving the classroom, avoid these mistakes as a CEO Teacher®

Friend, this is the FINAL episode of 2021 and I want to share with those of you leaving the classroom what didn’t work for us this year, what business mistakes we may have made, and how we overcame them. And since we’ve never done an episode like this before, I have bundled all of my business mistakes into this one episode. So whether you’re a teacher leaving the classroom mid year or whether you’re already well into your season of being a CEO Teacher ®, I want to encourage you to make a resolution for 2022, stick to it, and start the new year with a bang. Why you ask? To create momentum!

New Year, new you: what leaving the classroom looks like as a boss

I live for New Years. It’s my favorite holiday of the year. Forget Thanksgiving and Halloween, because with New Years, you’re encouraged to start anew. As many former teachers leaving the classroom can attest, going into business for yourself can feel like a string of setbacks. But to quote the great Richard Branson, “One thing is certain in business: you will make mistakes. When you are pushing the boundaries, mistakes are inevitable – how you react is important.” Let me say that again: how you REACT to your mistakes is what matters most. So today, we’re going to look at what careers for teachers leaving the classroom actually look like. And I’m going to share it all – my top business mistakes. That way when mistakes happen in your business after you’ve left the classroom, you’ll have ways to avoid them. The first step? Listen to this episode!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • Why teachers leaving the classroom will have to learn how to hire and fire
  • How your job as a teacher leaving the classroom is to embrace this season of your life
  • Why getting over the limiting belief that no one can do it better than you is a must
  • Why leaving the classroom does not mean sharing all of your secrets
  • How teacher burnout comes from letting too many people call the shots (outside of those that matter the most)

I live for New Year's resolutions and I do really good at keeping them. So every year,

0:44.5

I try to think of one thing that I can start as a new habit. And this past year, it was keeping

0:49.9

my car clean. And although I failed some when the baby was born, I have really, really worked on

0:56.8

making that a weekly habit. I go wash my car every Wednesday. I now have someone that comes to

wash my car and vacuum it out once a month just to keep it maintained. And it has made my life

so much better. So I want to encourage you to pick a new year's resolution, stick with it,
