Hello everyone. I'm Kate Baldwin. It's Friday, April 17th. Here are the five things you need to know to start your day.

Number one, the ceasefire. Not the one between the U.S. and Iran, this one between Israel and Lebanon,

but it has everything to do with Iran. A 10-day ceasefire is now in effect in Lebanon.

There were celebrations in the streets as news of its spread.

The agreement came about after the first talks

between Israeli and Lebanese leadership in decades.

And it removes a major hurdle to ending the U.S.-Iran war

because the Iranian government has insisted that that truce extend to Lebanon.

Big question, what's Hezbollah going to do?

The Iran proxy in Lebanon is considered more powerful than the Lebanese military and is long made clear that it doesn't answer to the Lebanese military or government.

In the hours leading up to this pause,

Asbalah fired at least 20 rockets and drones into northern Israel, and Israel says it

hit nearly 400 targets in southern Lebanon yesterday, as in that ceasefire lead-up. President

Trump applauded this pause, posting that he hopes Hezbollah will, quote, act nicely during

this time. He also said that he's inviting,bollah will, quote, act nicely during this time.

He also said that he's inviting, he is inviting the leaders of Israel and Lebanon for a possible meeting at the White House soon.

As for the war with Iran and the talks to end it, Trump struck a very optimistic tone yesterday.

I will say the war in Iran is going along swimmingly.

We can do whatever we want.

And it should be, it should be ending pretty soon.
