Hey there from CNN. I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know for Friday, April 17th.

Iran says the Strait of Hormuz is open. Foreign Minister Abbas Aragachi says the passage for all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah that was announced

yesterday.

The key passage has basically been shut since the war broke out, kicking up oil prices worldwide

and spiking gas prices here in the U.S.

So this could, and I'll stress could, be a major moment.

U.S. stocks are up on the news.

Global oil prices slid down more than 10% to below $90 a barrel at one point.

But CNN Business Senior Reporter David Goldman says lots more has to happen for things to get back to normal.

Nothing has changed yet. Oil hasn't gotten out of the street yet. It just opened.

And so a lot is left to be seen about what actually

happens. If the president says that Iranian oil isn't going to get out, well, okay, so how

does that work? You know, that's a military effort. We still have forces in place to make sure

that that blockade holds. And so this is a sentiment reaction.

This is folks saying we think that this is what's going to happen, but we need to see it

actually moving out.

Trump wrote on true social this morning, the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports would remain

in place until their deal with Iran is, quote, 100% complete.

The president has said the next round of talks between the U.S. and Iran could happen as soon

as this weekend.

The two-week ceasefire is set to expire next week.
